The Pearls of Midwifery
The Pearls of Midwifery (The Midwifery Model of Care: Evidence for Physiologic Birth) were created by Whitney Pinger, CNM, MSN FACNM as a way to share the scientific evidence behind the midwifery model of care that optimizes physiologic birth. Working with members of the ACNM DC Chapter, she created a presentation that describes not only the science, but also the methods to support physiologic birth with evidence-based practices. It was first launched during National Midwifery Week at The Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown University October 2008 Grand Rounds. The Chapter received the first ACNM Media Award for the Pearls of Midwifery in 2010.
The Pearls of Midwifery have been revised by ACNM staff and members multiple times and now incorporate updated evidence and an extensive set of references. Following their initial presentation at ACNM Annual Meeting in 2010, the materials have been made available to the membership as a power point presentation titled Evidence Based Practice: Pearls of Midwifery. Many staff and member volunteers have contributed to the 2014, 2019, and current revisions.
Geared for grand rounds presentations or anywhere you need to demonstrate the efficacy of the midwifery model of care, the slides can be presented as a whole, or a selection of slides can be selected and used as a shorter presentation.
The Midwifery Model of Care: Evidence for Physiologic Birth is an ACNM member benefit. Log in to you ACNM member portal, and the slides are available in “My Member Resources.”
