This presentation will help midwives understand various compensation models including pay-for-service, pay-for-value, and incentive compensation plans. Incentive (or variable) compensation plans have been available to physicians for decades, however, the shift from incentivizing volume to incentivizing value has recently accelerated. In this changing environment, opportunity exists to incentivize value, ethics, and provider-employer-payor alignment. The majority of the session will focus on incentive compensation models, now emerging as an important strategy to attract and retain midwives, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
