Midwifery is having a moment in the United States. Midwives can help improve the quality of maternal care and improve outcomes associated with pregnancy and birth and people in positions of power to make instrumental policy changes within our nation’s healthcare system are listening. Our goal is to ensure that ACNM’s legislative priorities remain at the forefront of policy discussions involving maternal health, access to care, and the healthcare workforce. This year is even more special as ACNM’s Hill Day falls on the International Day of the Midwife, Monday, May 5th, and leads into National Nurses Week, which begins Tuesday, May 6th.
ACNM’s Hill Day allows members and midwifery supporters to engage with congressional offices to discuss their work and share their perspective, as midwives, on how policy impacts the work they do daily and the profession at large. ACNM Hill Day attendees will discuss the association’s federal legislative priorities during the 119th Session of Congress, including:
We encourage all members interested in moving the policy needle for midwifery to join us on Capitol Hill on Monday, May 5. A tentative agenda has been provided below.
Please note that registration will close on Friday, April 25, or once capacity for the event has been reached to give our team the appropriate amount of time to schedule meetings with your legislators.
