State Advocacy
One of the ways that midwives advocate for the people we serve is through promoting health policies that reduce barriers to midwifery care and create communities where midwifery flourishes. As a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, you can count on experienced knowledgeable national office staff, consultants, and dedicated volunteers to support our state affiliates in their pursuit of legislative and regulatory reforms that increase access to the care midwives provide, improving health outcomes and eliminating health outcome disparities.

Busy affiliate leaders can learn here how to effectively work with Advocacy & Government Affairs and get your affiliate ready for the advocacy work your communities need.

You don’t have to go it alone. We are here to help.

Here, state affiliates can find resources to aid in creating favorable environments for midwifery practice by achieving full practice authority, seeking equity in reimbursement rates, and gaining full hospital and health system privileges. We are also helping state affiliates to establish a licensure mechanism for Certified Midwives. The volunteers of the State Government Affairs Committee serve as state level leaders on issues and efforts specific to their states.
