SUMMARY:Midwifery Week 2025: Clinical Competencies for Suturing and Perineal Repair
DESCRIPTION:This presentation introduces recently developed clinical competencies for suturing\, post-birth assessment\, and repair of birth-related tissue trauma. Detailed skill-specific clinical competencies provide an innovative framework for learning\, teaching\, and evaluation of skill acquisition. Explore how competencies can improve birth equity for clients and across the midwifery profession\, ensuring that all midwives have the education and skills to be confident and competent when assessing the need for and performing wound approximation after birth. Examine how clinical competencies present new ways for learning and teaching of suturing skills. \nPresented by Nell Tharpe\, CNM\, CRNFA\, MS\, FACNM

SUMMARY:Midwifery Week 2025: Getting Virtual Care Right: Three case studies exploring high-risk maternity care for the individual and group care patient
DESCRIPTION:This presentation examines the implementation and outcomes of a virtual Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model designed specifically for high-risk maternity care. Through quantitative analysis and detailed case studies\, we evaluate how digital health technologies enable comprehensive care coordination between virtual specialists and local in-person providers. The model demonstrates successful integration of behavioral health services\, group care\, medical nutrition therapy\, and specialty consultation that maintains fidelity to relationship-based care principles and midwifery best practices. \n  \nPresented by Amy MacDonald\, CNM\, MSN\, FACNM

SUMMARY:Midwifery Week 2025: How Midwives Can Use the Quality Family Planning (QFP) Recommendations to Improve Care and Advance Change
DESCRIPTION:This webinar hosted by Coalition to Expand Contraceptive Access (CECA) and Power to Decide (PTD) in collaboration with ACNM\, will introduce participants to the Quality Family Planning (QFP) Recommendations released in late 2024. The recommendations aim to enable health care providers with the knowledge\, skills\, and attitudes to ensure that all people\, regardless of individual characteristics such as sex\, sexual orientation and gender identity\, age\, disability\, or race\, can have their sexual and reproductive health (SRH) needs met. In the rapidly changing SRH landscape\, these guidelines equip administrators and clinicians to channel the best available evidence to improve practice. \nPresented by Raegan McDonald-Mosley\, MD\, MPH\, FACOG & Lisa Stern\, RN\, MSN\, MA

SUMMARY:Surgical First Assist Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Midwife as Surgical First Assistant is an expanded practice area for the CNM and CM. The midwife who serves as first assistant in surgery functions as a perinatal and birth professional in the perioperative setting. The workshop’s focus is on applying current evidence so midwives can participate and provide continuity of care for clients during a cesarean section. In this course\, you will learn core knowledge and skills needed to perform as the surgical first assistant for cesarean\, at a novice level. \nThis course is designed specifically for midwives and addresses the promotion of vaginal birth\, shared decision-making and informed consent\, and functioning as an active member of the perioperative team. Attendees learn how to perform immediate pre-op preparation of the client for surgery\, and during surgery provide optimal surgical exposure\, participate in tissue dissection\, ensure hemostasis\, perform or facilitate wound closure\, and perform other intraoperative functions to assist the surgeon in carrying out a safe operation that optimizes outcomes. \nCEs Offered: 10 CE / 1 RxCE
