SUMMARY:Addressing Mis and Disinformation in Contraceptive Care - A discussion with CECA and PTD
DESCRIPTION:The webinar hosted by Coalition to Expand Contraceptive Access (CECA) and Power to Decide (PTD) in collaboration with ACNM addresses current challenges surrounding access to contraception amidst political and advocacy attacks\, with a heightened emphasis on the role of misinformation and disinformation (MDI). These challenges include attempts to redefine pregnancy by focusing on fertilization rather than implantation\, which not only poses risks for both providers and patients\, but also contributes to widespread misconceptions. \nSince Fall 2022\, CECA has united stakeholders to develop a responsive\, proactive\, and collaborative strategy for contraceptive access in a post-Roe environment. Through this process\, five focus areas and goals emerged\, refined by key stakeholders\, which can help shape an effective strategy. Significant attention has been given to the second focus area\, which addresses contraceptive MDI. PTD has been actively working to raise awareness about these issues\, particularly the risks associated with redefining pregnancy and the implications for access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care. \nThe webinar aims to engage ACNM members by presenting key insights from the Post-Roe Strategy and equipping members with practical knowledge and tools to effectively address MDI related to SRH care. \n  \nPresented by \nLisa Stern\, RN\, MSN\, MA\n \n \nRaegan McDonald-Mosley\, MD\, MPH\, FACOG

SUMMARY:Surgical First Assist Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Midwife as Surgical First Assistant is an expanded practice area for the CNM and CM. The midwife who serves as first assistant in surgery functions as a perinatal and birth professional in the perioperative setting. The workshop’s focus is on applying current evidence so midwives can participate and provide continuity of care for clients during a cesarean section. In this course\, you will learn core knowledge and skills needed to perform as the surgical first assistant for cesarean\, at a novice level. \nThis course is designed specifically for midwives and addresses the promotion of vaginal birth\, shared decision-making and informed consent\, and functioning as an active member of the perioperative team. Attendees learn how to perform immediate pre-op preparation of the client for surgery\, and during surgery provide optimal surgical exposure\, participate in tissue dissection\, ensure hemostasis\, perform or facilitate wound closure\, and perform other intraoperative functions to assist the surgeon in carrying out a safe operation that optimizes outcomes. \nCEs Offered: 10 CE / 1 RxCE

DESCRIPTION:Over the course of five hours\, participants will review pertinent content and test-taking strategies to prepare for the AMCB Certification exam for Certified Nurse-Midwives and Certified Midwives. Participants will learn innovative test-taking tips to help them tackle the exam and gain confidence in approaching standardized exam questions. The Faucett Review method involves four components: Content\, Discipline\, Realism\, and Strategy. Participants will need to watch the 3 and a half hours of video content prior to attending the live webinar.

Early bird discounts available before March 1. \nThis fee includes: \n\nBriefing on ACNM’s Legislative Priorities\n\n\nTraining for Hill Day Meetings\n\n\nMeetings scheduled for you with staff for your US Representative and Senators\n\n\nTalking points and fact sheets for each bill we will be “advocating” for\n\n\nLunch with ACNM’s Board of Directors on Sunday\, May 4th\n\nMidwifery is having a moment in the United States. Midwives can help improve the quality of maternal care and improve outcomes associated with pregnancy and birth and people in positions of power to make instrumental policy changes within our nation’s healthcare system are listening. Our goal is to ensure that ACNM’s legislative priorities remain at the forefront of policy discussions involving maternal health\, access to care\, and the healthcare workforce. This year is even more special as ACNM’s Hill Day falls on the International Day of the Midwife\, Monday\, May 5th\, and leads into National Nurses Week\, which begins Tuesday\, May 6th. \nACNM’s Hill Day allows members and midwifery supporters to engage with congressional offices to discuss their work and share their perspective\, as midwives\, on how policy impacts the work they do daily and the profession at large. ACNM Hill Day attendees will discuss the association’s federal legislative priorities during the 119th Session of Congress\, including: \n\nSupport for the Improving Care and Access to Nurses Act\n\n\nSupport for the Midwives for MOMS Act\n\n\nSupport for the PRECEPT Nurses Act\n\n\nSupport for reauthorization of the Title VIII program and the MatCare grants\n\n\nSupport for CM inclusion in Federal Statute\n\n\nSupport for Hospital Privileges for Midwives\n\nWe encourage all members interested in moving the policy needle for midwifery to join us on Capitol Hill on Monday\, May 5.
