Will you be marching for midwives on Thursday, May 5?

In preparation for the 29^th Triennial Congress of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), June 19­–23 in Durban, South Africa, 5k events are being planned around the world to bring attention to the needless death of mothers and their babies, and the midwives working to save their lives.

5k Walks on International Day of the Midwife

On May 5—International Day of the Midwife—the road to Durban starts at each midwife’s front door. ICM has called all midwives to plan local walks in their communities.

ACNM is keeping a list of walks around the United States. If you are planning a local walk, please notify the ACNM Division of Global Health at icm2011midwife@gmail.com. See our updated list of walks around the United States on our Web site.

If you are not able to participate in a local walk, commit to the virtual Global March for Midwives, sponsored by ACNM, Jhpiego, and 8 other maternal-child health organizations.

US Midwives Stand United

In order to stand united and identifiable in Durban and at home, US midwives will wear ACNM-designed scarves and men’s polo shirts for their personal, community, and onsite walks.Scarves are now available at ShopACNM.com, and men's polo shirts will be available soon. Scarves and polos will also be available in the ShopACNM Bookstore at the ACNM 56^th Annual Meeting & Exposition in San Antonio, TX, May 24 – 28.
