Who's the boss?

I chose to have a home birth with midwives because I had no interest in being forced to accept interventions and medications, or being told to lie down or not to eat. I wanted to be fully present for the birth and have my baby born unmedicated. I wanted him to be handed to me immediately and for his cord to be intact as long as possible. I used to joke with my midwives that I'm not a hippie, I just want to be in charge. My lovely hippie midwives were my guides through the birth, not my bosses. It was an amazing experience.
