Summary
The Maternal and Reproductive Health Advisor (MH and RH Advisor) provides technical leadership in supporting Save the Children’s maternal and reproductive health programs. The MH/RH Advisor will be responsible for:
- Providing technical input into shaping and developing a maternal and newborn and reproductive health (MNH/RH) strategic plan at global level
- Working closely with other health and nutrition colleagues as well as HIV/AIDS to ensure integration, innovation, and application of high quality and evidence-based approaches to improving health outcomes
- Providing technical leadership for MH/RH through:
- 1. Strengthening community-based and facility maternal and reproductive health
- 2. Integrating MNH/RH into MCH and nutrition programs
- 3. Strengthening clinical skills (including supporting in-service training),
- 4. Developing/reviewing curricula, manuals, standard protocols and guidelines for maternal, newborn and RH health programs
- Building the capacity of country offices and other sector staff to design and implement, monitor and document quality programs with a focus on clinical skills strengthening in MNH
- Identifying best practices, documents and promotes uptake more broadly within SC programs and more widely among partners and program community.
- Representing Save the Children to partners, donors and the global community on issues related to maternal and reproductive health
- Leading the development and submission of quality proposals in response to identified opportunities
Requirements:
- Health professional (MD or nurse midwife) with midwifery training skills (pre-service and/or in service clinical training)
- Master’s Degree in public health, highly desirable
- At least 7-10 years’ experience implementing international maternal, RH programs in a developing country
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in maternal health, family planning/reproductive health systems strengthening and service delivery
- USAID experience and experience developing successful project proposals, effective implementation plans, and monitoring frameworks
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating midwifery clinical training
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills
- Excellent multicultural, interpersonal, teamwork, partnering, supervisory skills and ability to work independently
- Ability to communicate in an additional language (French or Spanish) desirable
- Willingness to travel internationally at least 35%
