WRA Maternal Health Technical Advisor

Position: Maternal Health Technical Specialist (http://www.healthpolicyproject.com)

Location: Global Secretariat, Washington, DC

Reports To: Deputy Executive Director

Job Summary:

The Maternal Health Technical Specialist (“Specialist”) provides leadership and overall technical direction in safe motherhood to the USAID supported Health Policy Project (http://www.healthpolicyproject.com), led by Futures Group. This senior role includes project management, technical advice and support to the various programs under this project as well as participation on HPP committees and working groups as appropriate. Maternal health activities include Respectful Maternity Care, Improving the Status and Working Conditions of Midwives, and “Smart” Integration of Family Planning and Maternal Health, as well as participation in an activity addressing Gender and Policy in Scale-Up of FP/MNCH Best Practices. In addition, the Specialist shall collaborate with the Director of Technical Oversight and other technical or program staff as needed on HPP and WRA strategies, activities and products.

Responsibilities:

  • Assume leadership for program design and implementation of Maternal Health/WRA activities/programs under HPP, including budget oversight and facilitation of relevant meetings with stakeholders
  • Work with other HPP technical specialists and teams to ensure technical quality for the maternal health components of all HPP activities, programs and materials in collaboration with other WRA staff as needed
  • Provide support to WRA National Alliances, particularly regarding implementation of HPP activities
  • Ensure timely reporting to HPP project and USAID
  • Coordinate WRA cost-share to the HPP project
  • In collaboration with the webmaster and communications staff, ensure that relevant HPP information and resources are highlighted on the WRA global website (and cross-shared with HPP Knowledge Management)
  • Represent WRA in official meetings and fora related or linked to HPP projects and activities

Required qualifications and skills:

  • At least 8-10 years experience in maternal health;
  • Masters or other advanced degree in public health or related field;
  • Experienced in USAID-funded projects;
  • Demonstrated leadership in program management;
  • International work experience (developing country);
  • Proficiency in a second language (desirable);
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of time
