Continuing Competency Assessment - CCARecognizing Professional Commitment to MidwiferyEstablished February 1986, the CCA Program is a voluntary comprehensive recognition program developed to provide Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) and Certified Midwives (CMs) with an opportunity to demonstrate competency in the provision of health care to women, newborns and their families. The Board of Directors at its Dec. 2006 meeting approved peer review of textbook chapters as an acceptable alternative in lieu of CEUs toward meeting CCA requirements. This brings the total number of other activities besides CEUs that count toward completion of your CCA cycle to six activities. Credit for peer review of textbook chapters toward CCA requirements (approved Dec. 2006)
Credit for precepting toward CCA requirements (approved Dec. 2005) CCA participants can report up to the equivalent of 1.0 CEU (10 contact hours) for time spent precepting a student nurse-midwife (SNM) or student midwife (SM). A section has been added to the Self Reporting Form under the heading "Acceptable Alternatives in Lieu of CEU" where time spent precepting can be calculated and recorded.
