PREEMIE Reauthorization Act moves forward

On Dec 19, the House passed its version of the PREEMIE Reauthorization Act that would grant a four-year extension of programs to decrease the risk of premature births, pregnancy-related deaths, and infant mortality. The House version includes provisions to allow the NIH to establish a National Pediatric Research Network and would reauthorize federal payments through 2017 to children's hospitals that operate graduate medical education programs. The bill passed the Senate last November. The House vote returns the measure to the Senate.
