Mission and Overview
The Division of Research (DOR) contributes to
knowledge about the
health of women, infants and families and advances the profession
of
midwifery by promoting the development, conduct and dissemination
of
research. The role of the DOR is to inspire, facilitate,
disseminate,
coordinate and link research activities within ACNM, as well as
with other national and international midwifery research
organizations.
We focus on research that investigates, elucidates and advances
midwifery practice and education. We aim to develop a midwifery
research agenda, and disseminate it widely.
The DOR helps develop the research interests and
abilities of ACNM
members, and fosters communication among midwifery researchers,
clinicians, the media, policy makers, health planners and funders.
We
advise ACNM about research issues, including membership
surveys,
research priorities, and evaluation of research proposals that
require
ACNM endorsement or support.
The DOR works closely with other entities within
the ACNM, including
the Program Committee, DSOP, DOE, Public Relations, the
International
Health Committee, Global Outreach, and the ACNM Foundation. Our
mutual
goal is to use research to inform clinical midwifery practice and
care,
for the benefit of women, infants, and the midwifery profession.
We are eager to develop new activities and
involve more midwifery researchers (including students). We welcome your
interest! If you would like to become a DOR member, download the Committee Interest Form from this website and send it with a letter of interest
to the ACNM Vice President (address is on application). S/he will
forward the application to the DOR. At the same time please email
the
DOR chair of your interest in becoming a DOR member (lisa.hanson@mu.edu). You
may also join the Research
eMidwife Discussion Group.
