National Government Affairs Committee

Purpose

The Government Affairs Committee serves as a forum for policy coordination from the Divisions and helps to implement ACNM's advocacy goals related to midwifery practice and women's health by carrying out strategies on a national level. The Government Affairs Committee also coordinates the mobilization of grassroots efforts by ACNM's membership, ensuring that our direct political action is both enthusiastic and effective.

NGAC Member Responsibilities

The NGAC chair is responsible for facilitating a forum for policy coordination and coordinating the implementation of national advocacy efforts related to midwifery practice and women’s health in conjunction with the ACNM national office and Board of Directors. Additionally, the chair is responsible for coordinating strategies related to national advocacy activities within the Division of Advocacy and Affiliate Support and at Annual Meetings in conjunction with the ACNM national office and the Board of Directors.

NGAC Members serve three‐year terms, which start and end at the conclusion of each Annual
Meeting, and demonstrate interest in the political and policy work of ACNM. Members also:

  • develop and evaluate political and economic policy related to midwifery practice and women’s health
  • participate in the development and implementation of the ACNM legislative agenda
  • work with the federal lobbyist and the Director of Government Relations to coordinate and implement ACNM legislative efforts
