Our Mission | Take the Pledge | Share Your Story

National Midwifery Week is October 5-11!

National Midwifery Week celebrates and recognizes midwives and midwife-led care. We need your help to spread the word to even more women! Start by watching and sharing our brand new video, below.

Now, check out our daily action plan. By participating in one simple action each day and encouraging others to do the same, we’ll all take one collective stride towards creating a new understanding of midwifery and normal, healthy birth in the United States. Here's what you can do to help:

Monday: Know Your Options!

When it comes to health care, you don’t have to settle. Commit to exploring your options for birth and women’s health care by signing the Your Health Promise pledge at Educate yourself about what the pledge really means and why taking this step is so important for you and your family.

Tuesday: Bust a Myth!

Misunderstandings keep many women from enjoying the benefits of midwifery care. What myth about midwives do you most often encounter? Check out the midwifery myths listed here, or think of your own. Then share the truth through your social media networks.

Wednesday: Spread the Word!

Pick one thing you can do today to spread the word about midwives in your community. Check out the great tools here, and take one step forward by sharing an OMOT Facebook status, retweeting an OMOT Twitter tweet, or personalizing a resource in one of the OMOT Toolkits.

Thursday: Share Your Story!

Share your moment of truth. Did you have an “ah-ha!” moment when you realized midwifery care was right for you? Have you had a positive experience with normal, healthy birth? Have you discovered the advantage of using a midwife for your primary care needs? Share your story on the Our Moment of Truth website, and then share the link to your story with your social media networks.

Friday: Put Yourself First!

Self-care is always important, and National Midwifery Week affords the perfect opportunity! What will you take time to do for your health? Ideas include: get a flu shot from a midwife who provides primary care, enroll in that prenatal yoga class you’ve been putting off, or schedule your annual well-woman exam with a midwife. Let us know how you are going to put yourself first here, and how midwife-led care inspired you or helped play a direct role in putting your health first.

Don't forget to use the official hashtag #NMW14 whenever you post or repost on social media. Follow Our Moment of Truth on Facebook and Twitter to share our messages throughout the week, because everyone deserves to know how #MidwivesMakeADifference!
