2013 Annual Appeal
Dear Fellow ACNM Member,
I am writing to you as President of the A.C.N.M. Foundation to express my thanks for past support of our mission and to ask you to consider investing in our 2014 endeavors with an end of year tax-deductible gift. As you know, we are a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization supporting activities focused on midwifery education, research, practice, and leadership.
In 2013 we made numerous Awards and Scholarships in support of our mission, which is to “promote excellence in health care for women, newborns and families worldwide through the support of midwifery”. Examples include scholarships for basic midwifery education, student mentorship at the ACNM Annual Meeting and graduate education for midwives; recognition awards to midwifery pioneers, OB/GYN physician partners, excellent teachers, senior clinicians and students with the best interviews of senior midwives; global health awards to increase midwives’ skills for international work; fellowships for clinical managers to expand their leadership skills; and support for innovative endeavors by midwives and other high-impact community projects. I would urge you to visit www.midwife.org/ACNM-Foundation for a more complete listing of 2013 Award and Scholarship Winners.
We have as a goal for 2014 to expand our donor base to ensure an increase in numbers of as many current awards and scholarships as possible. Additionally, we hope to continue one of our most exciting activities, one that appeals to midwives of all ages, our Midwifery Legacies Project, honoring senior midwives over the age of 65 through preservation of their stories via written or video interviews. Surprisingly, these 20th century midwives comprise a full 20% of the current ACNM membership! To date, we have amassed over 100 written and video interviews with plans to expand this popular project in 2014. But, in order to fully accomplish all of our 2014 goals we must have the support of our donors.
As volunteers with ambitious goals for the future, the Trustees and I realize that our ability to fulfill our mission depends heavily on strong administrative management. To accomplish this, we recently entrusted executive oversight of our day-to-day management to long-time consultant, Lisa Paine, CNM, DrPH, FACNM. Lisa will be very happy to answer any questions about the Foundation, including donation information. She can be reached by phone at: 240-485-1850 or by email at: [email protected]
Again, I want to thank you for your dedication to our profession and for your support – past and future – of the A.C.N.M. Foundation. My best to you and yours for a very happy holiday season!
